Received from Pauline Wilson after her very informative presentation at our last Executive Meeting
After a flurry of interest from Whitchurch bowlers there are just 3 places left on the Newport level 1 coaches course 11 May & 22 June. So don’t miss your chance but book through the Coach Bowls website as soon as possible to secure your place.
Statement from Mike Beckett.
What I said last night at the Executive Meeting is not quite correct in regarding a player allowed to play twice.
I stated that the LOWEST team from a club having more than ONE team may play a player twice.
The actual rule that was passed at the AGM was that the LOWEST team from a club may play a player twice.
Consequently the correct interpretation of the rule is that the LOWEST team from a club may play a player twice, even if that Club only has one team.
I apologise for any misunderstanding.
Rules have been updated on the Rules - 2019 link. Notes have been added on the Club page to explain the new rule for allowing a player to play twice.
All the 2019 SCGBA County Competition dates can be viewed on the SCGBA County Dates Link
Can clubs please log in and enter your team Jubillee Doubles entries and remove the tick from the relevant Star or Presidents box if your club DOES NOT wish to enter these competitions.
This needs to be done by 31st March so that the draws can be carried out.
Shropshire are hosting another Level 1 Coaching Award on 11 May & 22 June. There is still a substantial subsidy of 50% available from BCGBA and SCGBA will contribute towards the cost so I am looking for volunteers to step forward and volunteer.
Some leagues are very well represented by coaches but large areas of the county e.g. Ludlow, Oswestry, Market Drayton have none and Shrewsbury & Whitchurch only a few. So, please think seriously about becoming a coach. We really need you in order to grow our sport – don’t be shy.
Club Coaching Sessions
The Shropshire coaching team are open for business once again. We did 20 visits to clubs last year and would really like to surpass that this year. So, whether we have been to you before or you would like us to visit for the first time please contact me to arrange a visit. We can offer sessions for all abilities not just the basics and can offer school taster sessions too so do get in touch

Chester Road now consist of all mixed teams and have been allocated letters A to H depending where their teams finished last year.
Following last night’s AGM the following new Officers were appointed:

The following new rule was passed to help teams due to shortage of players during Holiday times.
Rule 4.3c It is expected that clubs will fill teams by drawing players from the teams below them. In the event of the LOWEST team of a club being unable to field a full team for a match, its captain may put face down four or more cards with the name of players who are prepared to play twice that evening. The opposing Team Captain will draw from these cards a player who is allowed to play twice. If more than one player is required, he/she may continue to draw from the remaining cards. The points that these players score will count towards their team total, but six points will be deducted from the total aggregate for that match for each player who has played twice.
Note 1. The person entering the match result on the website will select a player called Played Twice for the second game and enter the name of the player concerned in the box shown.
Note 2. The players who play twice must also have played at least 50% of their games for that team to date; this will be monitored by the Results Secretary and if they have not played the required number of games up to the date of the match the result will be declared a Walk Over for the opposing team.
Note 3. The individual player’s score from their second game will not count in their individual averages.
All other rule changes were passed with the exception of the proposal to increase match fees to 35 pence.
