HEART OF ENGLAND FRIENDLY BOWLING LEAGUE
As a League we are committed to encouraging competitive bowling in 2021.
Due to Covid restrictions this season is a shortened season and with some players still being uncertain of playing we have opted for both Leagues being based on 8 teams in a division with 6 bowlers in a team and this season to be a one off season with all teams reverting to their final placings from 2019 for next season with teams unable to field teams this year being able to re-join us next year.
This season, as an experiment, you will be able to play bowlers twice if necessary to be able to give opponents a game but with a 6 shot deduction for each player that bowls twice and their score will not be included in the averages. We also suggest that if teams have a surplus of players that the respective Captains liaise with each other and arrange for extra players to play but not included in the actual match.
There will not be any handbooks or Result Cards this season so suggest you use any prior season cards that you still have or make up a simple form to put the scores on. It doesn’t matter which team enters the result as long as the other team confirms the result.
It is up to Clubs to ensure that their players have access to fixtures which can be printed from the website. Please contact me if you have any problems with this and I will be pleased to assist.
All other rules will still apply but if you have any problems please contact me, preferably on 01527 893525 but in an emergency 07857 624417 when a suitable outcome can be arranged.
I have left 30th June as a free Friday in the Over 60,s as if everything goes to plan I may be able to include further fixtures in a cup competition at the end of the season.
Will you all please check the player registration files, on the website, for you club as there have been a number of problems. Any alterations to registrations must be notified to me.
May I remind all Clubs that they must abide by any government rules in accordance with Covid restrictions
If in doubt please ring – I really am not the ogre I am sometimes made out to be.
I hope you all enjoy whatever bowling you are able to do this season.

David passed away on Monday morning at Heartlands hospital ending a prolonged battle of ill health. Outwardly you would have found it hard to detect what he must have been enduring over the last few years.
A full and active member of the club, he was always approachable and willing to help out, he has been a captain and served on the management committee.
David always had the best interests of the club at heart.
I trust that our thoughts and prayers will be for Susan, Amanda and the family.

Management Notice ~ 27th May 2020.
It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Derek Shortley sadly passed away on 1st April 2020. He had been one of the founder members of the Heart of England Bowls League and only our second President since the league started in 1973. In all the years of the league, Derek is the first standing officer of the league to pass away while still being in office. It was with sadness that his family did not have the chance to say their goodbyes. This is a sad time for the league so soon after the passing of Fred Vines who was a Life Vice President and the first president of the league.
The league has donated £50 to the Poppy Appeal on Derek’s behalf, any Club wishing to do so can donate directly to the Poppy Appeal.
The committee held a video conference last night and it has been decided that the Heart of England League fixtures for 2020 have now been cancelled. It was hoped that they could have been started up again in July but this seems unlikely now, and as there will be no insurance cover this year, we have regretably followed suit with the rest of the leagues.
The Management Committee wish to thank all clubs for going along with the league and paying their subs. The committee have decided that any fees paid will be held by the league and any adjustment will be made next year.
With regards to the presentation we will keep this on the table at the moment. If everything is opened up we will discuss whether we can meet and have a meal. There would be no presentation it would be an informal 2020 Get together.
The committee discussed nominations for a new President. The consensus from those present was for either Brian Parkinson or Peter Mole. Brian felt that it should be someone younger and Peter Mole accepted the post and felt very honoured to do so.
Hope you are all well and staying safe.
The Management Committee
3rd April 2020
It is with great sadness that Derek Shortley passed away on Wednesday 1st April. Derek was another of our Founder Members and only our second President. He will be sadly missed for his steadying hand on League matters.
Derek's cremation is on Friday 17th April at 3.30p.m. at Redditch Crematorium. I know we cannot be present but please just think of Derek and his family at this time. Any donations should be made to British Legion Poppy Appeal
20th March 2020 - Be aware of thefts to your equipment sheds and stores.
Please check your Clubhouse and equipment stores in these awkward times, as there seems to be people looking for opportunities to steal what they can whilst there is nobody about.
18th March 2020 ~ Coronavirus
Following the Government and BCGBA announcements we have no alternative but to suspend all activities of the Heart of England Friendly Bowling League, until further notice and with immediate effect.
We have been monitoring the situation for sometime and had various alternatives organised, but that has been taken out of our hands now.
We will be keeping an eye on the developing situation and if the situation improves may be able to organise some form of programme later in the season. With this in mind will all clubs please ensure that their fees are paid and players registered so that we will be able to take swift action. Any adjustment to subs will be made next year.
Should any clubs wish to have their handbooks, they may be collected from Brian by prior arrangement.
Stolen Equipment from The Baldwin - Hall Green
If any club is being offered a 2014 Ransomes Super Bowl 51 or a 2019 protea 630 groomer ( which was brand new this summer) please contact Jim Kernick. They had a break in on Monday night (16th December) at the Baldwin Bowls club in Hall Green Birmingham. The Baldwin would be grateful of any information / safe return of this equipment.
