Welcome to the Bangor & District Bowling League Website
IMPORTANT MESSAGE MAY 16th 2020
We have been advised by Bowls Wales that it has been made clear by Welsh Government representatives
that Covid - 19 (Coronavirus) guidelines and regulations currently state that, unlike England, it is not
permitted to play Bowls.
In addition, Bowls Clubs are not permitted to open under the current regulations and Welsh Government
laws.
The Welsh Government is on a 21 day cycle of reviewing their regulations and guidelines. The next review
is scheduled for the end of this month and Bowls Wales will have input into that review after consulting
with the WCGBA.
It was agreed at the EGB (virtual) meeting yesterday that :-
Public Liability Insurance must be kept up-to-date.
Green Maintenance should be done, strictly observing social distancing and hygiene regulations.
All WCGBA fees already paid – Affiliation, Players Registrations & Open Competition, will be ‘rolled
over’ to 2021.
WCGBA President Simon Walker, & Deputy President, Jack Hunt, will remain for 2021.
All WCGBA Competitions will be ‘rolled over’ to 2021
o BCGBA Affiliation fees should be paid
o All BCGBA Competitions will be ‘rolled over’ to 2021
o BCGBA President and Deputy President will remain for 2021

Hello Everybody ! I sincerely hope you are all keeping safe in these unprecedented and most trying of times for our country and the whole world !
There has been a great deal of confusion in our locality regarding the issue of essential green maintenance in the Anglesey/Bangor area, with some arguing that it is possible to do this and remain compliant with the governments social distancing rules and others asserting that that this is not the case. I know of one club in our locality that faces possible oblivion if the latter interpretation of the rules is applied and taken to its logical conclusion.
Therefore, in a bid to find some clarity, I took it upon myself to contact our BCGBA CEO, Mr Burcumshaw for some guidance. Our short e-mail exchange is reproduced verbatim below for your perusal : Mr Buckland : "Is it possible for clubs to maintain their greens and remain compliant with the governments rules on social distancing ?"
Mr Burcumshaw : " Short answer is yes, if this is classified as essential maintenance and work. However, all social distancing and isolation rules should apply and anyone who is instructed to stay at home for medical reasons should not do so. It could classify as exercise but no more than two allowed at the club as all pitches are technically closed in accordance with guidance stated on Monday."
There it is then for everyone to see. I leave it for others to decide their own clubs actions based on this guidance.
We at the WCGBA have received some feedback that whilst the direction relating to Coronavirus on competitions and leagues is unambiguous the same cannot be said of the advice on ’social bowling’ and whether Clubs should remain open to facilitate that.
Accordingly, I now wish to state that, particularly in the light of the Prime Minister’s statement tonight, it is the WCGBA’s unequivocal advice that all affiliated Greens be closed forthwith and until further notice. We have fully considered all factors that might mitigate against this advice and can find none.
