Triples Own Partner at Stafford Bowls Club
With the earlier rounds being completed on Monday, with some wonderful displays of bowling,
the semis and the final were played on Tuesday afternoon.
After two really excellent games, with the Park team being on the green for 2h 15m, they maintained
their good form in the final to overcome their opponents 21 - 8.
Many thanks to Anne for all the organising, helped by Kit; to SBC for providing the facilities and an excellent
playing surface (thanks Chris) and special appreciation to Marian and Wendy for the excellent refreshments.
Thanks, also, to the players who all took part in good spirits.
Pictured below (courtesy of our official photographer, Stuart) are the winners,
Mick, Jim and Clive (all VPB) and the runners up, Anne (PR), John (SA) and Lila (PR).
2018 Doubles Own Partner Competition - Alstom Greens
It was a good turnout with 30 pairs entering.
There were some good bowls played over the two days under hot (very) and sunny conditions making for challenging greens.
Thanks to the Alstom club for providing the facilities and refreshments and Anne (+ Kit) for making sure that things ran smoothly.
Many congratulations to the Winners Charlie and Rob (AA) and to the runners up, Hilary and Bill (BM)
Charlie and Rob and Hilary and Bill with their respective shields (with thanks to Stu)
Duplication of Players
May I remind teams of the recommendation that players be duplicated in matches no more than 3 times in a season.
It is noted that some teams have already exceeded this when they have players in their teams who have not yet played a game.
Your co-operation is requested.
2018 Drawn Doubles
Congratulations to this year's winning pair, John Smith (BM) and Brian Hickman (AC)
21 - 9 winners over Graham Webb (AA) and Jim Ashford (LB)
Sadly, there were only a few who turned up to watch Tuesday's matches but the matches seemed to be
enjoyed by those who took part. Hopefully there will be more entries for next year's competition.
Thanks to The County Officers Bowling Club for allowing us to use their green and also for the catering with drinks and cakes.
Also, many thanks to our hard working Competitons Secretary, Anne, for all her hard work.
Entering results on the website
May I remind all team captains and representatives that it the responsibilty of the HOME team to enter and save the
results on the website. Once this has been done, the AWAY team can check and, if in agreement, save the results again.
Please note that whilst is best to enter the results as soon as possible there is a period of 5 days allowed.
2018 Individual Merit Competition
Congratulations to Don Wood (PB), winning 21-11 over Pam Ewan (PR)
Glorious weather for both days of the competition and some wonderful games.
Thanks to our estimable Competitions Secretary, Anne, and also to the Little Stoke club
for hosting the competition and supplying the refreshments and cakes. (Did I mention the cakes?)
Well done to all those who entered and thanks to those spectators who attended.
TRIPLES DRAWN PARTNER - Penkridge Bowling Club
The winners of this competition, played over 2 days, are Phil Hood (U3A), Geoff Hollis (COA) and Ted Rees (AA) who beat the partnership of Dave Halley (COA), Anne Mace (PR) and David Wilkinson (PR) 21 -12
Thanks to all the players who took part; thanks to the Penkridge club for all their hard work in making sure that the green was in excellent condition and everyone was well catered for and, of course, Anne for organising things, ably assisted by Kit.
Many congratulations to the winners.
The Borough Shield 2018
Congratulations to Terry Dyke (Alstom B) 21-19 winner of the 2018 Borough Shield and congratulations also to Don Wood (Penkridge B)
a worthy runner up.
The unusual Bank Holiday weather made for an excellent competition.
Many thanks to the Competion Secretary, Anne Mace, who, as usual, ran a tight ship despite some setbacks.
Full results can be found via the link on the left.
Bob Whitfield - Stafford C
It is with great sadness that we have to report the death this morning of Bob Whitfield.
Bob had not been well for the past few months but suffered a massive heart attack this morning. He would have been 87 years old on Wednesday.
Bob was a member of Stafford Bowling Club for many years and was a past Captain of the Vets ''C'' team.
Our thoughts and sympathy go out to his family and friends.
Parking when playing at Greenway
I have had a request from the Council to remind players that when parking in the surrounding streets to please be considerate and not block driveways or park in such a position that emergency vehicles are unable to get through.
Your co-operation is much appreciated.
Club Insurance 2018 Season
A quick reminder to check that all clubs have appropriate insurance in place for the 2018 season.
This is a requirement by the County and National Associations.
I would be grateful if clubs could confirm with me that such insurance exists.
Duplication of Players
Just a reminder that last season's policy that a player playing more than once in a match should be restricted to no more than 3 matches is still
in force and clubs are requested to comply.
Details of all Competition Dates, Venues and Entry Closing dates are available
via the link on the left
In Memoriam at Greenway
Stafford U3A Vets
Please note that Ian has moved and his contact number on the fixture card is no longer valid.
His new contact details can be found by logging in and checking under ''''Club Contacts''''.
Alternatively, contact me and I will pass on his details.
GDPR Data Protection Regulations 2018
The ICO (Information Commissioners Office) has issued new regulations that will come into force of 25th May.
It is unlikely that the new GPDR (General Data Protection Regulations 2018) will affect any of the clubs in the league but I would urge club secretaries
to complete the brief survey, which can be accessed through the link
The link above is for the self-assessment page but there is a lot more information on the home pages, etc.
Amendments to the Laws now in force
Amendments to the laws of the game came into force on 1st March 2018 and can be viewed via the link on the left
Parking Restrictions at Amasal
Yellow lines have now been laid in St. Albans Road making kerbside park illegal (unless you have a disabled badge)
If you are playing there the club requests that you pull onto their car park, even if it means blocking another car in.
