TEAMS PLAYING IN OUR NEW LEAGUE ARE FROM A 20 MILE RADIUS OF SOUTHPORT.
PEOPLE PICKED FOR OUR COUNTY TEAMS COME FROM THIS RADIUS.
THE JEWEL OF FLEETWOOD HESKETH -TRACY CHARLESWORTH- HAS BEEN CROWNED THE QUEEN OF THE MINI-LEAGUE !!!
What a turnaround of fortunes on the last day of the new Mini-League at the TRINITY in Formby.
Billy Roddan, who has played superbly in the first two weeks and was all set to take the honours of being the TOP best performer in the Mini-League league games, lost two games on the final day.
The Newly Crowned Queen, Tracy, played brilliantly and won all three of her games on the final day and overtook Billy winning 8 of her 9 games played, to Billys 7.
She now takes the £40 winning prize at the Finals Day next Sunday between London & Fleetwood Hesketh.
Other players, worthy of notable records, were the Trinity man Dave Croot who was their top man who lost 4 games with 3 of them to 11-10.....well played Dave.
The Burscough with the best performer over the three weeks was Neil Haskayne, who won 6 games out of his 9 and in it, he ended Billy Roddans chances of winning the best performance prize.
Top London lad was Gordon Gow who only played 6 games BUT won them all and it was a pity he did not turn up on day one....excellent stuff Gordon.
Holy Trinity must get applauded for their fine effort and fine helpers who turned up each week and we hope to come back there again in the future.
WEEK THREE IN THE NEW MINI-LEAGUE AT THE TRINITY IN FORMBY.
With the sun shining for the second week running, the 39 Bowlers who turned up at Holy Trinity were really Blessed with enjoying a great winter afternoon of bowls in the last league weekend of the Mini-League.
In game ONE we had the Home Club Holy Trinity taking on the Lads from the London with a place in next weeks FINAL here for the £300 first prize.
Trinity were lying equal Third at the start of the day and if they could beat the London Lads by a 16-8 score they would be in second place outright with 35 wins to 34 wins for the London Lads.
Unfortunately, the Lads from the London wanted to get to the Big Dance next week more than Trinity.
London made week three a huge 17-7 win, which equalled their best win from last week.
This put them into First place on 43 wins and making it certain they would be in next weeks final.
This left the last game of the League between Fleetwood Hesketh and the Burscough Boys !!
Burscough needed to win 19-5 to Dance with the London Lads next week.................
Fleetwood Hesketh had different ideas and made the same score as London, winning 17-7 and going into next weeks Final in First place with 49 wins.
Come along next Sunday at 1 pm to see the FIRST ever Final of the Southport & District Bowls League FINAL
Cash payouts next week will be £300 to the winning Team.
Plus a great prize £40 going to the person who made the most wins during the League matches.
WEEK TWO OF THE MINI-LEAGUE FROM FORMBY.
In the Winter warmth of Formby, with nearly another 40 bowlers who turned up at Holy Trinity, they enjoyed the beautiful day in the Sun with some brilliant Bowling yet again with some major upsets for the fair size crowd watching to enjoy.
SHOCKS at TRINITY ON POPPY DAY
Starting off the upsets was Home Girl Kath Ryan who had a tough match on against Fleetwood Captain Brian Coleman who went unbeaten in week one winning all three of his games but Kath had the bit between her teeth and never let Brian get his way with her !
She allowed him to get one shot and that was it for Brian.
In the same match was the Top Home man and average leader after week one, Dave Croot, who took on our Tracy who was also unbeaten in week one but a big underdog on paper.
Tracy got away from Dave and she was 10-4 up on Dave who had a front toucher to win another end but Tracy somehow took Daves wood out with a wonder wood and she wrapped up a great win for Fleetwood.
Fired up, Tracy took her form into round two and secured an 11-2 win, while the whole crowd was all talking about Tracy the Jewel of Fleetwood !
The bottom team from week one were the London Lads and it really stoked the coals of pride up in them being there and they brought in two new lads from the strength they have there with Gordon Gow & Dave Stringfellow helping to take on the tough Burscough team.
The new lads won all the 6 games they played scoring 66 shots whilst just allowing a total of just 13 against them.
London really set about getting back into the Mini-League hunt and today they won 6 of the 8 round one matches and then 7 of the round two matches eventually finishing the day with a 17-7 win easily eradicating their 15-9 week one loss, well done the London lads.
Fleetwood Hesketh kept up their form by winning 17-7 against the Trinity Home team.
Billy Roddan from Fleetwood has taken over from home man Dave Croot with 6 out of 6 wins under his belt with Tracy lying second on 5 out of 6 dropping just two shots in her last game.
Top of the points aggregates is London Lad Gordon Gow with a 9.33 average.
There is a Cash prize of £40 going to the Top of the averages after week three because two teams drop out in week 4 due to that being the Final week.
With a major interest in our NEW Format for bowls, we are planning two more MINI-Leagues, in January and then in February so when the MAJOR-League starts in May 2019, we will know all the pluses and minuses if there be any.
This month we are running 4 teams of 8 players per game with all players being able to play 3 games each week, but the Captain can drop one or two after the first or second rounds if they are playing badly.
In our January MINI-League, we are changing the format slightly to have 8 teams of 4 players which means that it will make it easier for some clubs to get 4 players but you can also see there will be the same number of games each week and also the prize money will be the same amount.
If you want your club in either January or February then email either of the co-ordinators at the above email addresses to get your team in. February may be back to teams of 8 but we will make that decision nearer the time. Get in while you can folks.
It is great to see the Star Holy Trinity man Dave Croot leading the way in the averages as he lies on TOP of these with over a Plus 7 average.......well done Dave.
Also at the TOP, the Fleetwood Hesketh Girl Tracy Charlesworth, who like Dave Croot won all of her three games and Fleetwood believe they have found a secret Jewel in Tracy, good girl Trace !
So the race is on to see who will win the coveted Averages CASH Prize for the best performance over the 3 weeks of this New Mini-League.
Next Sunday London starts the proceedings against Burscough Legion at 1 pm followed by Fleetwood Hesketh taking on the home club in Holy Trinity.
The TOP TWO Teams after three weeks, play in the Final in Week 4, for the £300 first Prize.
The top two teams will be the ones with the MOST game points to their names at the end of the week 3 matches.
There were just on 40 bowlers who turned up at the beautiful Formby Holy Trinity Bowls green next to the Church on Sunday 4th Nov. Everyone who played all had a great time in the NEW MINI-LEAGUE that we are running this month.
We would like to thank Holy Trinity for allowing this League to happen at their great venue and it was nice to receive such a warm welcome from the home venue bowlers who all helped make this first day a success.
Opening the matches were Holy Trinity against a strong Burscough Legion team, there were 24 games to be played and after 22 of the games, Holy Trinity gave Burscough a true test as the scores stood at 11-11 with just two games left on the green.
Ged Aindow and Len Ryan for Trinity were the two guys tasked to get the home team through but the strong Burscough lads in Dave Barker and Ron Evans made the last two games a thrilling finish with both Ged for Trinity and Dave for Burscough each winning their games making it a Drawn match.
Points per winning player count and not for winning the match so 12 pts each was great for both.
The 3 pm match saw Fleetwood Hesketh take on the London lads who all made their presence felt shouting their teammates on.
After the first 8 games Fleetwood took a 6-2 lead, then in the second set of games, the London lads stopped the trend by getting 3 games off Fleetwood and then in the last set of 8 games the London Lads made it a 4-4 set.
This meant the match result ended at 15-9 to Fleetwood Hesketh.
