CONGRATULATIONS to Owen Sherriff (Washlands) on winning the Gordon Ellis Trophy, defeating Aiden Richardson (Derby Coop) 21-16 in the final at Kings Newton BC. MIDLAND MASTERS - Alvaston & Boulton trio Adam Hartley, Dan Hartley and Phil May qualify for the finals of the Midland Masters to be held at Stretton on Sunday 16th September following our heat yesterday at Chellaston. DERBYSHIRE SENIOR MERIT - Ed Furniss (Rowditch BC) becomes only the fourth player in the history of the Derbyshire Merit (going back to 1911) to retain the title after taking the spoils at Arkwright Town BC. He beat Dougan Tubey (Belvedere) in the final 21-10 who himself was looking for his third Merit title. Ed now goes on to the BCGBA Champion of Champions at The Waterloo on 29th September. Well done Ed. A great acheivement.

DERBYSHIRE JUNIOR MERIT - Congratulations to Joshua Furniss (Rowditch BC) who wins the Derbyshire Junior Merit at Hazelwood BC. In a great day for the Furniss household, he held off his brother Louie in the final with a 21-16 victory. Both of them now go forward to the All Britain Junior Individual Merit Final which is to be held at Netherseal BC on Saturday 18th August. There was more local success in the Supplementary Merit competition with Jack Desmond (Alvaston & Boulton) beating Aiden Richardson (Derby Co-op) 21-19 in the final. Josh can be seen receiving his trophy from County secretary Glynn Holmes.
WITHDRAWAL - Regrettably, Swadlincote Catholics have withdrawn from the Dean Burton Friday League Premier Division. They have lost a large number of players from last season and have found it increasingly difficult to raise a team. Any matches already played are now void and remaining fixtures have been set to a bye. The club will continue to play in the Harold Fellows Monday League as scheduled.
COUNTY MERIT FINALS - The Centenary County Merit Final is to be held on Sunday 24th June at Arkwright Town BC, Chesterfield. We have been awarded 9 places, so a playoff is needed to decide who will accompany the 8 South Derbyshire Merit finalists.
The playoff will be for those that lost in their last qualifying game and will be held at Littleover No 1 on Thursday 17th May at 7pm. The 8 players involved will be - Andy Ryder, Rob Redfern, James Glasby, Darrell Matkin, Richard Stretton, Les Smith, Neil Pickering and Craig Pearson.

CHARITY CUP - Keith Widdowson defeated Adam Dickerson 21-18 to lift the Charity Cup at Allestree on a sweltering Bank Holiday Monday. Best bowler from Division 2 and below was William Marshall from Belper Pottery who had a great day reaching the semi finals and Hannah McDonald won the prize for best lady bowler. TUESDAY LEAGUE - Thank you to the anonymous sponsor who has very kindly come forward to sponsor our Tuesday League. Your generous contribution will be put towards the running of the league and end of season prizes.
We are still looking for sponsorship for this seasons Dickie Cup and Gordon Ellis Trophy for Under 18's. If anyone wishes to get involved, please contact any committee member.

Monday League - Rykneld have withdrawn from Division 2. Belvedere A have replaced them from Division 3 to balance the leagues.

Friday League - Washlands B have withdrawn from Division 4

PETER HOWE - It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that Peter Howe, a long standing member of Rykneld Bowls Club, passed away in the early hours of Friday 16th March 2018. The funeral will be held at Derby Crematorium (Main Chapel) on Wednesday 4th April at 3.20pm. Donations in lieu of flowers to Nightingale Macmillan Unit. Our thoughts are with Betty and all their family.

GRAHAM ROBERTS (Sitwell Arms) It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that Graham passed away on Wednesday 14th February aged 72 years. His funeral service will be held on Thursday 8th March at Markeaton Crematorium (Main Chapel) at 10.40am. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu may be given at the service for Cancer Research UK.
