Are You Playing With Odd Bowls?
One of the Pontesbury B players, Barry Challinor, has ended up with two odd bowls which look the same but one is Hi Density (belongs to him) and the other Standard Density (belongs to someone else). They are both the same manufacturer and model - Thomas Taylor De Luxe - both black, both 2-10’s and both have yellow centre mounts with no lettering.
It is possible that the swap didn't take place during a Senior Cits League match as he also plays in the Wem and Tanners Leagues. Can you please check your own bowls if you play with Taylor De Luxe 2-10's and also ask any team mate who plays with such bowls to check them to see if one is a Hi Density which they shouldn’t have and if so to get in touch with Chris Kershaw.
DOUBLES and PRESIDENTS DAY COMPETITIONS
A reminder to all players that the remaining two annual one day competitions will take place as detailed below.
There is no need to pre-enter for the Doubles - just turn up on the day no later than 9:45am so the draw can take place in time for a prompt 10:00am start. All first time losers will go into a Consolation comp so everyone is guaranteed two games on the day. Cash prizes will be given to the winners and runners up of both the main and consolation comps with the amounts paid out dependent on entries, but there will be no trophy.
League K/O Competition Matches
Would those teams taking part in the Dick Meyrick, Ron Smout and Sponsors K/O competitions please ensure that matches are played on or before the deadline of Monday 23rd July. It is the responsibility of the home team captain to make contact and agree a match date, and don't forget no practise on the match green for the home team on the day of the match. The K/O draw for each competition can be viewed by clicking the appropriate "Draw" button in the green area to your left.
The away team will receive 12 chalks which are added to the final total (when entering the results online ignore these as the system will automatically add them to the results). The winner will be the team with the highest chalks but if equal then the team with the most winners. If still equal then the player(s) with the highest differential score and if still equal then there will be a one end sudden death play off between a player from each team with the jack being tossed for.
Players may only participate in one of the competitions which means that once a player has played for one team, they cannot play for any other team even if their original team gets knocked out of the competition. For the semi-final and the final where a club has two or more teams, a player is not eligible to play unless that player has played in at least two League matches for that team.

Serving Tea at League Matches
At the 2017 season end of season meeting last September we discussed the timing of the serving of tea at League matches. A huge majority indicated that their preference was to serve tea once the match was over for three main reasons.
Firstly, from a health point of view, it isn’t recommended that players should eat and drink immediately before bowling which is what happens to the six players who have to play on the back if tea is served at half time.
Secondly, rather than feeding in the back three players as the front matches are completed, tea is served only when all three front matches have been completed which can lead to a lot of hanging around if one match is a closely run thing and takes extra time to complete.
Thirdly some players need to get back home by a certain time and if the tea is served at the end of the match they can have a quick cup of tea and then depart.
In any event the meeting felt that it was more conducive to have tea once the match was completed and the results known, and teams are urged to respect the wishes of the majority otherwise the matter will be discussed again at the end of season meeting with a view to incorporating it in the rules.
Directions to Shelton Bowling Club
The old way of getting to the club has changed and there is now no access through the Redwood Centre. From Shrewsbury direction fork left at Shelton traffic lights onto the A458 Welshpool Road. At the first island take the 1st exit (signposted Redwood Park) onto Somerby Drive. Follow this road for a short distance and turn right into The Furlongs, continue along and bear right then left through a blocked paved courtyard. The car park is a gravelled area through the gate and to the left of the cricket field fencing. (Please do not park in the Residents spaces). Walk through the gate in the cricket fencing and the clubhouse and bowling green are on the right hand side.
At the pre-season meeting the competition dates and venues were confirmed as below:
Singles one day K/O comp: Monday 2nd July at Greenfields BC starting at 9:45am.
Wilf Onions Doubles one day K/O comp: Monday 6th August at Meole Brace BC starting at 9:45am.
Presidents Day Perpetual Doubles comp: Thursday 13th September starting at 9:45am.
Dixon Cup (annual match against Mid Shropshire Senior Cits): Home venue OSBC on Number 1 green starting at 1:00pm.
The draws for the three League K/O Comps (Dick Meyrick, Ron Smout and Sponsors Shield) took place at the pre-season meeting and can be viewed/printed by clicking on the appropriate heading in the green area to your left.
All preliminary, first round and quarter final matches must be played on or before the dates indicated on the K/O sheet. However, the semi-finals will be held on three neutral greens on Monday 20th August starting at 1:00pm and the finals held on three neutral greens on Monday 3rd September starting at 2:00pm.
Home team captains should enter the match results online but ignore the 12 points given to the away team since the online results system will automatically add them to the away team's score. Finally please remember that the home team is not allowed to practise on the match green on the day of the match.
