2018 AGM

This was held on Monday 14th January 2019 at Bagley BC. The minutes of the meeting can be viewed/downloaded by clicking on the relevant button in the green area to your left.

It was agreed that the Pre-season Meeting would be held on Monday 4th March 2019 at Meole Brace BC commencing at 2:00pm and all clubs are reminded that attendance is mandatory in order to pick up the team paperwork for the 2019 season. The Agenda for this meeting and the minutes of the September 2018 meeting can be viewed/downloaded by clicking on the relevant buttons in the green area to your left.

The draw for the three K/O comps (Dick Meyrick, Ron Smout and Sponsors) will take place at this meeting so delagates need to know if their team(s) will be entering or not.

Three new clubs will be joining the League this season: Bishops Castle, Crescent and Prince Hotel fielding one team each although the old Church Stretton team will be moving to Bishops Castle and playing as their A team. Existing club Oswestry Church will be entering a B team this season and it is likely that Battlefield will be entering a C team. This means that Division 1 will increase to 14 teams and Division 2 to 13 teams meaning that the season for these two Divisions will start 2 weeks earlier (28 March) and finish 2 weeks later (19 September) than the other three Divisions.

The 2019 Fixture Lists will be published on 1st March and so it is very important that any clubs wishing to withdraw or add teams must let the Results Secretary know by the 28th February latest.

PRESIDENTS DAY

This was held on Thursday 13th September at Meole Brace where we had a total of 32 entries. The weather was very kind to us and all players had a most enjoyable day. After 7 rounds of 8 ends per round the eventual winner with 70 points was Dave Povey (Pontesbury A) with Glenys Jones (Oswestry Church A) on 69 points as runner up.

Dave was presented with the Bill Garratt Memorial Cup by League President Margaret Cooper, and also received the traditional engraved tankard. Glenys received a plant arrangement in a basket.

The raffle made well over £60 which the League will top up to £100 which will be donated to Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury.

Finally thanks to Meole Brace BC for letting us use their excellent facilities and for the splendid catering arrangements which kept players going throughout the day.

 Interim League President

Our President Ed Jackson continues to suffer ill health and has reluctantly decided to cease being President of our League. Ed served the League as Results/Fixtures Secretary for many years before retiring and was unanimously erected President in appreciation for all he had done for the League.

The League Chairman and Secretary feel that continuity should be maintained between now and the AGM and so on your behalf have asked Margaret Cooper the League Treasurer to become President and we are very pleased to say that she has accepted. At the AGM she will be formally nominated by the Chairman and Secretary for the role of President for all she has done for the League over the many years she has been Treasurer, a post she intends to continue with. It was also felt appropriate to appoint Ed as an Honorary Life Member.
