Thursday (21st) sees the Murphy Cup Final between Norley and Hazel Pear being played at the Grapes Inn, with Hazel Pear starting the game with a 25 point handicap advantage.
On the league front, in Section One, Norley travelled to Kingswood and kept their unbeaten record going with a fine victory 145-122, with John Brooker 21-02 and Chris Koral 21-01 making the difference on the night. Barry Stopford replied for the Kingswood with a 21-12 card. In second place, also unbeaten, Pavilions A won 155-104 against Helsby A, John Briggs and Bobby Johnston both winning to singles. Helsby A had Robert Ellison stopping the home team from getting a full house, with a 21-08 win. The highest team score was recorded at Grapes with a fine 162-133 win against Pavilions B who will be happy with a good away score, Ray Bull 21-07 making the difference on the night. Newcomers Castle S&SC are finding some steady home form and so it proved again with another 160-103 win against Hazel Pear. Yet again Andy Hamman winning to single figures 21-02. Helsby C had a solid home performance and had seven winners 156-129 against Kingswood B with Roy Furber 21-09 for the home team, while Shaun Donnelly also won 21-09 for the visitors. Norton A and Halton A had a low, but close scoring encounter 129-126, with both teams having four winners on the night.
Best winner in Section One this week was Chris Koral 21-01.
In Section Two, the only team in the league to record a full house this week were Manley who beat Kingsley B to 91, there were three singles figures winners, namely Barry Ellis to 9, Joan Southerton to 6 and the best winner was Captain Marcus Cassidy to 4. The best game of the week was played out between Egerton Memorial and Subscription 140-143. Chris Woods 21-07 just didn’t quite provide the home team with a victory, with George Smart replying 21-11, helping Subs to win this excellent match. Meanwhile at Kingsley A the home team beat Norton B 147-127, mainly in part to Robert Hill 21-03 card. Both teams had four winners and Neil Scott won again, this time 21-12.
Best winner in Section Two this week with just three results showing was Robert Hill 21-03.
In Section Three, the best away performance this week in the league was recorded by Pavilions D at Helsby B scoring a 158-112 away victory. Six winners and with a card from Ken Burton 21-05 helping them, Helsby B replied with Margaret and Les Wright, both winning to 16. Goshawk B played against seven players from Crowton and won 160-94. Peter Bellis 21-13 stopping a full house. Best winners for the Goshawk B team was Heather Lloyd winning 21-09, with Marjorie Shields 21-10 and Mike Shields 21-11. Also in the section, Rock Park B beat Helsby D 150-110, Helsby had three winners, but Marie Scott 21-08, Joan Fletcher 21-07 and Chris Wood 21-02 winning cards, helped the home side victory. There was another home win for Halton B, this time against Grapes, winning 147-115, best home winners were John Lawson 21-09 and Doug Kewley 21-07. Replying with a 21-08 card was Mike Highton.
Best winner in Section Three this week was Chris Wood 21-02, who keeps her unbeaten record going this season.
Chris Koral 21-01 for Norley away at Kingswood was this weeks best winner in the league.
