Thursday (23rd) sees the finals of the Abel Cup handicap held at Subscription BC, the finalists are N Ocego, K Duncalf, M Ellison (6) and J Coats (6). The competition will start at 6-45 prompt.

Last Thursday saw the prelims of the Jim Ainsworth merit and through to the finals are, Neal Ocego, Mark Furber, Kevin Duncalf and John Briggs, venue TBA.

Section one table toppers Norley continued with their superb form with a full house 168-94 victory against Norton Arms A, leading the way for Norley Kevin Duncalf 21-03 and Jim Large 21-04. Third placed Pavilions A travelled to take on fourth placed Halton RBL A and came away with a great 96-168 win no fewer than four players winning in single figures, leading the way Bob Johnston 21-05, Graham Oliver and Alan Briscoe both 21-07 and Brian Furber 21-08. Second placed Castle SSC visited Kingswood A and came away losing 148-133, best win on the night for Kingswood Mike Forster 21-09 and best reply for Castle Helen Goadby 21-10, the loss dropped Castle into third place.

Best win in section one last week Kevin Duncalf 21-03.

Section two leaders Kingsley A also remain unbeaten after a 168-68 demolition of new comers Grapes C, Kingsley had five players winning in single figures, leading the way Mick Cartwright 21-02, Mike Clay and Graham Jones both 21-03, Dave Ewart 21-04 and Gary Greenhalgh 21-08. Despite their loss 140-133 at War Memorial Manley hold onto second place, leading the way for War Memorial Mike Field 21-08 and best reply for Manley Joan Southerton 21-06. Overton moved into third place after a 156-97 victory against a weakened Willow Brook, best won for Overton Peter Dolan 21-05 and replying for the Brook with a Captain’s performance Alan Watts 21-09.

Best winner in section two Mick Cartwright (Kingsley A) 21-02.

Section three leaders Frodsham Con’s took on fourth placed Rock Park and ran out the winners 148-136 in a tough encounter, leading the way for Frodsham Mal Cleworth 21-11 and best reply for the Park Joan Fletcher 21-13. Second placed Halton RBL B lost ground on the leaders after a disappointing 142-128 loss at Pavilions C, Diane Worthington 21-08 and Doreen Goodwin 21-09 led the way for Pavilions and best reply for Halton Peter Hollitt 21-09. Third placed Pavilions D also lost ground on the leaders after a 158-133 loss at Helsby D, John Clements 21-07 best win for Helsby and best reply for Pavilions Peter Dumbill 21-12.

Best winner in section three Anthony McCrorie (Goshawk) 21-05.

Best win overall last week Mick Cartwright (Kingsley A) 21-02, keep up the good work Mick.
