Sad news from Higher Tranmere Vets that former Chairman & Secretary Eric Bell has sadly passed away after a short illness. All thoughts go to Eric's family and club mates. Eric's funeral is next Wednesday 12th September at 10.30am at Highfield United Reformed Church in Rock Lane West Rock Ferry.

JOHN SHERLOCK WINS THE BEN WEBSTER MEMORIAL SHIELD

Ben Webster Winner 2018

John receiving the Ben Webster Memorial Shield from Peter Webster and Ken Griffiths (Chairman).

John Sherlock of Upton Victory Hall won the Ben Webster Memorial Shield on Friday beating Brian Francis of the Naval Club in the Final at Pensby. John had already defeated two former champions in qualifying. He narrowly defeated Noel Boyd to 18 in the Quarter Final before a tighter game 21 - 20 in the Semi Final against Peter Holian having led 20 - 16. Brian had put out Tixall's Steve Telford 21 -15 and then clubmate Vic Peers to 18. John had much the better of the final leading 16 - 5 at one point before Brian fought back to 14 - 17. John soon got back on track though and won with two doubles. Many thanks to Pensby Bowling Club for their excellent facilities and Peter Webster and family for continuing to sponsor this event in memory of his Dad.

Sad news from Dave Walker of the Lever Club

'It is with sorrow to let you know, Pat Graham, one of our afternoon 'C' team bowlers sadly passed away earlier today. Pat had been unwell for some time and had been in Broadgreen Hospital for the last 4/5 weeks. Pat was a member of the Lever Club for the past 7 years, playing regularly'.

JOB OPPORTUNITY

As you may or may not know I will be leaving the area to live in South Wales during the coming months and will need to step aside as Birkenhead Afternoon & Evening League Secretary at the end of the season. This is something that’s happened fairly quickly, and I wouldn’t have taken on the job had I known it was just for one year as I know people like to get used to one person.

However, I have enjoyed my time this year and would like to wish you all well for the future. Obviously there will be one big question coming out of this…..Who will do it next year?

This is where you come in.  Having done the Bebington League Secretary job for over 20 years and served on the Wirral CGBA Committee in a number of roles I know the amount work involved and how rewarding it is. This is your chance to make a difference and be involved in the decision making.

I am happy for anyone to contact me for an informal chat and we can go through any questions you may have. I can also show you how the website works and how we maintain all the information.

Please contact me as soon as possible either by email, phone or in person if you would like any further info. Contact details in the League handbook.

Yours in sport

Andy Dawson
